Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd (SRSA) is offering committed young entrepreneurs the opportunity to access the skills and capital they need to reach their full potential. With our Business in a Box Programme, you can own your own business, backed by an international powerhouse!


Who We Are:
SRSA manufactures and distributes the Dunlop, Falken and Sumitomo tyre ranges in South Africa and into the African continent. We create journeys to better people’s lives, with safety central to everything we do – from manufacturing, to delivery of our products, and ensuring their safe use on the road.

SRSA is owned by Japanese listed company Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd (SRI), situated in Kobe, Japan – one of the leading premium manufacturers of automotive tyres and industrial rubber products in the world. Our existing South African plant in Ladysmith (founded in 1973) produces passenger car, sport utility vehicle, light truck and truck and bus radial tyres, which are sold in South Africa and exported across Africa and other countries.


Our Business in a Box Offering:
As a key contributor to the South African economy, SRSA offers innovative sales channels and development opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Our Dunlop Container project was established in 2012 to drive sustainable township entrepreneurship and promote safety on the road. To make this a reality, we’ve partnered with national and provincial government, and recommended funders of SRSA’s initiatives.

Today, we have a national footprint of over 80 branded Dunlop Container stores employing around 400 people.

We help these dealers take their businesses to the next level, from entry-level enterprises serving the man-in-the-street, to fully-fledged businesses that can support the taxi industry and government departments.

Purchaser’s Requirements:

  1. 18 years old and above
  2. South African Citizen
  3. Registered Business
  4. Valid Tax Clearance Certificate and VAT Registered
  5. Business Bank Account
  6. Updated Financial Statements (For already existing businesses)
  7. A Comprehensive Business Plan (For the Tyre Business)
  8. Suitable premises, approved by SRSA inspectors
  9. Site Permit/ Site Lease Agreement
  10. Proof of electricity connection from Eskom or your local municipality
  11. Police Clearance

Final Steps
We’ll link up shortlisted candidates with recommended funders to apply for total funding of the Business in a Box.

Applicants who secure funding will be able to access the following:

  1. Training at one of SRSA’s Retail centres to gain the skills necessary for their business to succeed
  2. Support to comply with all legal and regulatory requirements

Once your application and site are approved:

  1. We’ll send you an official Container Agreement document with terms and conditions.
  2. Sign, complete and return this to us.

The future is bright
We’re constantly refining our Business in a Box solution to ensure that we identify young people with the right attitude and provide them with the help they need to create sustainable businesses that create jobs for themselves and others.

With unemployment statistics sitting at around 35% and close to 75% of that being young people in rural areas and in the townships, our enterprise development initiatives have been incredibly well supported.

Through this public-private partnership, SRSA is aiming to create 24 viable youth entrepreneurs and over 100 job opportunities by 2023!

And it doesn’t end there. Ultimately, we want to have the largest footprint of sustainable branded Dunlop stores that cater for the tyre fitment requirements of the township and rural areas of South Africa.

We’d like to convert more independent retailers to Dunlop fitment centres. We want to meet the needs of the taxi industry by introducing Dunlop Business in a Box centres at taxi ranks. And finally, we want to upgrade our top performing Dunlop containerised fitment centres into Dunlop Express and Dunlop Zones in the townships, and introduce Mobile Fitment Centres to support government departments serving townships and rural areas throughout South Africa.
